He looks amazing! The place where i keep him has the most greenest, richest, and lush grass you will ever see. There is a pond that he goes swimming in during the summer and his little brother (Rusty our other horse) play all day. I doubt anyone from the rescue would recognize him. His coat is so bright and soft it has turned red, hooves are the healthiest they've ever been, and his mane is like silk. He has lost weight and gained so much muscle. I take him on little rides around the farm and his manners have improves greatly. He used to be barn sour, but he has so much confidence now. I do a lot of ground work and have started to ride him a lot more. He reached his 25th birthday on april 11th and acts like a two year old:). A couple new horses have been added to the herd and the horses are uneasy, but Buddy isn't having many problems. He hangs out with one of the horses or just is alone till the horses settle in. He is doing great and our bond is awesome. He is a true partner now and is awesome:)!

Hey Y'all,

Buddy is doing well at his new home. I got him out and took him to the arena and played a couple of the seven games with him. Then i got up on him and just walked him. He did really well considering i haven't been on him for like ever. i just rode him around the arena a couple of times and that was it. I took him to the round pen and did some round penning work with him. He really had no idea how to stop so I'm gonna take him down to the round pen a lot and work with him on it. I also gave him a bath, he really enjoyed it. Then i treated his hooves with ToDay mastitis, it's for lactating cows, but it works wonders for thrush deep in the central sulcus. Two of his hooves have it (both right) so i have put it in a couple times and the frogs are already starting to open up and grow back from the inside out. I put apple cider vinegar on the outside of his hooves to help with the cracks and to protect them. The farrier will be out in about two weeks.

Hey Y'all,

Buddy is at his new home:)! When i went out to get him, he saw me and came walking up. I was shocked to see half of his face covered in flies! It was one of the craziest things I've ever seen. He didn't have any cuts on him, they just liked him for some reason. So i brought him in (he has settled down nicely) and groomed him and gave him his grain. I probably sprayed half a bottle of fly spray on him! His hooves are looking really nice and healthy. The only problem is a crack on his back right hoof that has been there for like five years. I didn't do any groundwork since it was 95 degrees out and there was no shade. He's looking really healthy. Part if his mane that was at his Crest always stuck up (as you can see in the pictures) but with his healthy diet it is going down and is extremely soft and silky. So he's doing well. I'll try to put pictures up of him at the farm he's currently at.

Changes

Hey Y'all,

So much has happened in the last year. I ended up moving Buddy to a place Mrs. Cheryl was leasing called Ducktown. It's a run down place, but the back pasture is amazing. It was probably 10-15 acres with grass up to your knees. The pasture had a huge (almost vertical) hill the horses had to walk up when they where turned out so he built up a lot of muscle. He has lost a lot of weight and the vet was extremely happy. She said he looked great and his hooves looked amazing. I actually had to switch farriers. The one that was trimming him was actually doing a lot of harm, but the new farriers is doing a fantastic job. Unfortunately Mrs. Cheryl stopped the lease and moved him to one of her different properties. It's 60 acres and he is now out 24/7. It has a catch pen so I've been able to continue working on his parelli with him. He's doing a great job. No one is out at the 60 acres to take care of the horses so he only gets the grain when i come. His coat looks incredible with the natural diet of just grass. I'll keep y'all posted on any changes. I should be out tomorrow and Saturday so I'll update sometime this or next week.

Hey Ya'll,

Buddy is doing great. I've taken two more clinics with him. The first two i worked on the seven games (parelli) and the third i did applying them on his back. I already new how to play them, but it was nice to have a pro give you some tips to help. The farrier was out and i got his hooves done (it was high time). I asked her about this HUGE crack on his back hoof that has been there for 3 years. She said to make a mix of tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar and spray it on twice a day. The oil is a antiseptic and the vinegar normals the acid level something like that. He's starting to get his winter coat ( he's turning into a fluff ball ;). I'm gonna start doing something diffrent for worming, (i forget what it's called), but all you do is take a small sample of the horses poo and give to your vet who sends it off to a lab and they will see if you need to worm your horse (9/10 horses actually don't need to be wormed). You do this every six months and it only costs you 12 bucks. Other then the hooves he's doing great.

Hey Ya'll,

Sorry i haven't posted. I did twice in these two weeks but, it never came out :(. Anyway Buddy is doing well. I need to earn a bit more and then I'll start buying his feed. I've been learning more and more things about Buddy as the years go on. I'd of thought i would know everything about him since the four years I've been working with him. Or maybe I'm starting to understand him more because of Parelli. Anyway I've been taking him on trail rides to help him loose weight and build some muscle. I've learned that it's not that he's a brat on the rides it's just he's underconfident without his herd. I've been walking him through the trails in the woods, where i ride him, to let him feel better about himself. When we start out I'll jump on his back when we're in the woods, for about five minutes, and then I'll just walk him the rest of the way. His coat is looking spectacular due to the fast track. His hooves are much better as well. I did a parelli clinic with him last Saturday. We already new most of the stuff but, it was a great reminder. I might due another one with him next Saturday. I haven't been letting him out to the pasture to graze during the day (it's been to hot). I'll turn him loose into the indoor arena where it's much cooler. I'd like to make some changes in his stall and diet. I already have Miss Cheryls permission to do it i just need to get the stuff. I want to switch his feed over to the Seminole. For his stall i need to get him a jolly ball, a lickit, a scratching pad, and an automatic fly sprayer. I also forgot to say that his ears have been eatin alive from those stupid flys. I've been putting cut heal into his ears and then the roll on fly spray around his ears.

Hey Ya'll,

We went out today for awhile. When we got to the barn I decorated Buddy's stall fot the forth of July. I adopted his stall so that means i'm in charge of keeping it clean, dust cobwebs, decorate it for holidays, ect. You can see it in his top picture. Then i bagged his supplements. His coat is really starting to look great from the fasttrack (his supplements). I got him out and groomed him it doesn't take as long because the supplements help his coat as well as many other things. His hooves are looking much better as well. Then i let him, Jester, and Rusty all toghther in the arena. I hope that's our little herd some day:). My mom and sister like those two. They all get toghter very well. Jester is the serious/dominint one, Buddy is the playful clown, and rusty is the youngin that needs to be taught a lot. So they work out well toghter. Buddy is doing great I'm gonna do some more research on the feed (the brands still gonna be seminole) I don't think the calm and cool is the best feed for him anymore. I'll try something else that is still seminole. I don't think he'll like it. He's a picky eater as you can see in the supplement issue :).

~Kristin

Hey Ya'll,

Buddy is doing great. I had him treated two weeks ago (for those who don't know what that means his body was adjusted with equine body therapy). He's feeling much better. He shouldn't be sore anymore for a while. The lady, who did it, was from Australia and she might becoming back in November. If she is I'll have her adjust him again. I wormed him last week. We've been working on flexion and he's getting better. We've been going on trail rides too. I can tell he really enjoys them (that's what he used to do when he was younger). I got him a ground feeder to help him with his neck and digestion (horses weren't made to eat with there neck up) so it's better for them. I might also be switching him over to a different feed. It's called Seminole. It would either be the light or the calm and cool (it's not a calming feed it's just what they call it i don't know why). I have to talk to Cheryl first and see which one she thinks would be better for him. I like the calm and cool more because it's a textured feed (that means it's not pellets it's more like the feed they're feeding him now it's just healthier). The light has a 10%protein and a 2% fat the calm and cool has 10% protein and 3% fat. Other then that he's doing awesome.

~Kristin

Hey Ya'll,

Buddy is doing well. His hooves have dried up nicely and he no longer has thrush. The little stinker won't eat his supplements. I've tried wetting his food (that makes the supplements stick to the sweet feed) and I tried mixing it in apple sauce. So I'm switching him over to something called Fast track. It's some great stuff. It not only takes care of his hooves but his coat, mane and tail, and joints. I'm starting it this Saturday. He is now also loosing his winter coat. I'm gonna start exercising and working him. He has gotten really fat. So they bumped down his feed down to a handful. I've been getting on him and been working on disengaging his hindquarters on his back and flexion. On the ground I'm now working on some more flexion and other exercises that will help him move easier. I take him up to Benny and Rebel's old pasture and let him graze on a twenty-two foot line. I also let him loose in the arena and he'll roll when he's feeling good. He'll follow me around like a little dog. That's sometimes how i exercise him. If i run he'll canter after me. The cool thing is i don't use treats to get him to follow me. Other then that he's doing great.

~Kristin

Hey Ya'll,

Sorry i haven't posted for awhile, I've been busy. Buddy is doing fine. The canker did clear up and his hoof is back to normal. I'm now giving him hoof supplements to prevent anymore problems. It's called Focus HF plus I'm giving him flax seed (to help with omega 3) and some salt (he doesn't drink a lot of water which is bad because he could get colic more easily, so the salt will make him want to drink more). I started last week so hopefully I'll see an improvement on Saturday. I've been washing his feet and scrubbing them then pat drying them and applying thrush medicine to keep all of that under control. I got him a really great thrush medicine called Koropox and it works great it clears it up real fast. We've been doing parelli a lot lately and he's gotten really good at it. He can disengage his front and rear quarters no problem, backup, lead, lunge, and halter much better. I've been taking him trail riding a lot lately bareback and i ended up getting him a parreli natural hackamore so we've been having a lot of fun. I also take him up to Benny and rebels old pasture to get some great thick grass and he enjoys that a lot. I got him some great treats too (they're his favorite). Of course some fly spray, it's that time of year again. I had to worm him last saturday as well.

Hey Ya'll,
Sorry I haven't posted for awhile. Miss Kathy sent my mom a email and said he had a temp of 105.4 last night so she gave him some bute he ate some of his food but not all of it. We'll be out there tomorrow and I'll support him and ask if I can give him some treats mixed in his food to make it look a little more appetizing. They soak it or the horses can choke and he's used to it dry. I'm his new wormer! I talked to Miss Cheryl and she said I can worm him i just need to tell after i do it. I took him out and groomed him I got him a special brush called a massage brush and boy does he love it. After that I checked his back to be sure that he wasn't sore and he was fine so I let him loose in the arena and mucked out his stall. Then we did parelli he's gotten really good with the touch game. I checked his back again and he was fine so I got up on him and just walked him around he was pretty hesitant so i set up carrots on a couple objects this teaches your horse that where you want to go is a really good thing so he got all his carrots he was listening really well I asked him for a trot he went right into it but it just felt wrong so i immediately got of and i checked his back again and it was a little jumpy and i did notice that his feet were trimmed and they were really short so he was sore but it's hard to tell unless there trotting and his back showed no signs so I started massaging him and gave him a nice warm soapy water foot bath and he felt a little better. So i talked to Miss Kathy and she said that he did have his feet trimmed last night. So i gave him his dinner with apples in it so that made him feel better! When turn out came it took me awhile to turn him out but I finally got him out we took it real slow from there I probably sat out there with him for twenty minutes waiting for him to get up the hill. We where going to leave him in but the soft grass would help him feel better so that's whats going on we won't be there next Saturday so i'll try to go out there during the week to check on his feet and give you an update.

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't posted for a while been busy getting ready for school, my sisters guinea pig has bladder stones so we had to take her to the vet. We've been going out a lot so here's the update on buddy. His thrush is back but don't worry as you know he stands in that hole which is bad for his feet but also his back because he does have some arthritis. Well someone donated a bunch of stall mats. With miss Cheryl's permission next time we're out we're going to get some gravel and fill in the hole and put in a stall mat!! I also got him some red 5 gallon buckets with his name on it to match his red corner feeder. I've been riding him bareback lately and when he graduates from the indoor arena with his listening skills then I'll move him to the outdoor arena and after he graduates from there he'll get to go trail riding. Last Sat. I took him into the arena for 4 hours! and here's what we did. I recognized that scared of buckets just laying around and he's a lot more cautious after some training so his parelli chart is finally starting to balance out. I don't want him to be cautious it's that i want him to be better responding not that he isn't already perfect:). So we played what is called the touch game to help him to be a more confident horse, even though he's an LBI (left brain introvert) and there amazingly confident he does get a little spooky at objects that we'd not expect. So this is how the touch game works so you have a 12' lead rope much better then a small little one and a carrot stick you pick a object and drive your horse to it with your carrot stick and your lead rope when the horse gets closer you leave them alone but when they get farther away you get on to them, and your goal is for them to touch there nose on the object and when they do reward them with a treat. He picked it up real quickly and now he's sticking his nose on every thing:) I'll post later.
<img width='1' height='1' groomed him, his thrush is now back :( . his coat is really smooth now and not as dirty. after that i did some parelli and got on him bareback and the reason I've been riding him bareback is i been training him to walk, trot, and canter perfectly in the indoor and outdoor arena and pastures. and right now it wouldn't make a lot of sense to tack him up and just walk in the indoor arena. and after that i let him loose in the arena and took care of his stall and i put some blackberry's in his feed bin. then i took him out to graze up by pokey he found some really nice grass then i put him back in his stall and feed him and turned him out and made sure his stall was in order thats all for now
kristin

hi all, we went out today but I'll finish up what happened previously.July 7 (Mon) we went out today and i let buddy loose in the out door arena to allow him to stretch his legs, of course after i blocked the other horses out. as we all know it's not good for a horse to stand still in a stall all day, because it cuts of the circulation in there legs or something like that. so when I'm there i always let him loose in one of the arenas for a while or until someone needs in. after that i groomed him his thrush is healing nicely. after that i mucked out his little spot in his stall, (his back legs stand in a small hole ,which i will soon get a stall mat, and he poos in that one spot so i just take a shovel and scope the poo out) and put fresh shavings in,cleaned his buckets and put fresh water in,and put all his hay into the corner. after that i did some parelli and he's gotten really good and gave him some treats and of course massaged him.after that i found a really tall and thick grassy spot and let him graze. July 10 the big reveal was amazing!!! to bad it rained that day :). i just got him out and let him run around, groomed him (thrush is almost gone :) !!!),massaged him and found another itchy spot, cleaned his stall and feed him (and a special thanks goes out to Mr. ivy for the Delicious hamburgers and hot dogs). July 11 we went out today and i got out buddy and we went out to his pasture (big one on the left) and for his exercise just walked him on some trails and played in the creek,we found a snake and ran away. after that i brought him back in the barn to dry off in the wash rack while i mucked out his spot in his stall and did his buckets. after he finished drying off i took him outside to his grassy spot to graze and be groomed and his thrush is gone (finally :) ) and gave him some treats i held out on the parelli because today we where just going to have fun. i feed him turned him out and finished the other chores :)

hi all, on July 5 (sat) we went out like normal to help with evening feed. when we arrived i went into the barn picked up bud's poo and checked his feet and the thrush was worse.i gave him some blueberry's (his 5th favorite out of apples:( . i got him out and groomed him, massaged him, did some parelli training, and wormed him, he had worms again and he was rubbing badly and I'll worm him in a month and a half.after that i let him loose in the arena and cleaned his buckets, watered, mucked and put fresh shavings in,put some more blueberry's in his feed buckets and brought him in. after that i feed him and brought him out and made sure his stall was in order and finished with the other chores. June 28 (sat). i walked in the barn and he whinnied at me. i forgot to say he has thrush so bad because he stands in poo all day so i muck it out whenever he goes, it was one of those days. i mucked it, put fresh shavings in it and cleaned his buckets. groomed him and rode him bareback and allowed him to go where he pleased as long as he kept going (parelli). after that i gave him apples and mints. and let him graze in the parking area. on July 2 (wend) buddy ( with my sister and court jester) and i went trail riding in his pasture he showed me some trails and we played in the creek he absolutely loved it as we were headind back i allowed him to go where he pleased and we canter around the pasture he decided to do it, it was those magical moments that we all horselovers dream of. when we got back i hosed him down and let him loose in the indoor arena to finish drying off and i mucked his stall, cleaned his water buckets, gave him fresh water, and put a some blackberrys, mints, apples, watermellon rind, and carrots each in his feed bucket. after that i groomed him again and put him into his stall.

hi all just got back from hrrrfi .when i got walked into the barn buddy started whinnying at me. i was so happy. i did some parelli training with him and I'll be out wends. so I'll do a little more training.

sorry i haven't post, been busy buddy's been great i'll post later today
he was ridden every day for the camps out there, he also had a knot on his back from the saddle i believe,so i got him out and took him into the indoor arena and took of his halter,i was curious to see what he'd do he started looking around, so i ran over to the other side and called his name he came trotting right up so i started running to the other side and he trotted right after me. While i was still in there i started messing with his bangs so he decided that since i was playing with his he could play with my favorite parelli hat so he grabs it and flings to the other side of the arena, of course i started laughing and since horses love laughter he trots of grabs it and plays hard to catch. I also gave him back scratches and massages to help with the soreness.
